Ya' know.... it wouldn't be a bad idea for all women to read this article
that's on the list. (I haven't seen it yet but the more you know the better
off you are....). The truth is, it's not about your age, it's not about
running or having a pink ribbon on your car and it's not about your age. I
just sent an email to recieve a copy of this article. Scared Straight is a
very appropriate title. It can happen to anyone, you'd be surprised at how
many women go through this.... I know I was. I had a prescription to have a
mammogram done that I carried with me for TWO YEARS (my forty year base line
exam) that I never had done, that was a year ago that I threw it away I had
it done finally in November. Surprises aren't always fun. Scary
stuff....... and it's not an area that you want to become an expert in.
Thank you for posting this. Be proactive and don't wait for this kind of
wake up call to knock on your door.

Tami & I & Margo (& technically Tiff & Joanne) bred a litter together.
Somewhere between the 63 days of is she or isn't she, do they have teeth, do
they have pasterns, do they have their mother's movement we became GOOD
friends.
As you know, Tami Howard was recently dianogized with breast cancer. She is
determined that as many people as possible know about early dectection. I
can't scoop poop from Las Vegas, but I have been know to string a few words
together, so there is an article that talks about her early experience. Be

Tami was not on the radar. She's under 40, therefore under the recommended
age for annual checks. My advisor group has read this article. Of 8 women,
three had not follow up on their annual check, one had a prescription in her
briefcase for over 8 months. Here are the opening paragraphs.

Be forewarned. This is not a "let's run a 10K, wear a pink ribbon, please
remember breast cancer" article. This is a candid discussion about being
"scared straight" into doing our monthly breast exam.
My friend Tami was diagnosed with stage three, that's three out of four,
four being the worst, breast cancer. In the course of six weeks, her life
has changed forever. The hardest part she says is that she felt like she was
"perfectly" healthy until her dog discovered her lump. A German Shepherd
Dog enthusiast, Tami's dog Joey jumped up on her and hit the lump. It hurt.
Only then she didn't know just how much it would hurt.
Afraid of doctors, Tami is not one for annual visits.. "Look at me now," she
ponders. She recently underwent surgery and called me. "I got good news
today," she begins. Let me tell you the definition of "good" has been
radically altered.
Twenty-two lymph nodes have been removed. Seven were malignant. "That's
only seven that may have carried the cancer to somewhere else in my body."
These seven lymph nodes were extremely responsive to estrogen. This means
that, "I will have to undergo aggressive chemotherapy, all of my hair will
fall out, other parts of me will have to go and I will grow a beard."
