[ SHOWGSD-L ] Floating Rib?

Just had a call from the son of one of our puppy buyers... Apparently the
puppy (5 mos) has a 'floating rib' and the vet has told the owner that it
will likely have to be surgically removed as it can cause discomfort to the
puppy.
Does anyone know anything about this? I haven't heard of it before and am
suspecting it's another scam for someone to make some $.
