Kay,
I use Roll-on fly repellant for horses.  Made by Farnam.  Rolls right onto 
the ear tips and you don't have to worry about getting spray into their eyes.  
I 
put it on every am before they go outside.  You do have to use it every day.  
If you miss a day the flies will know it.  I also spray the runs with a 
citronella horse spray.    Hope this helps,
