While the discussion of the new Breeders showcase was on the List, late
this summer, I proposed to the List and to the Futurity committee and chair
an alternative venue to the one proposed, to be in conjunction with the
regional futurities that would show case progeny from different stud
dogs/breeders. I figured it would be easier to do it this way than for
everyone to try to schlep puppies across the country to one destination
point.Plus it would allow for different breeders in different regions to
truly" showcase" their stud dogs and progeny and for those outside the
region to see what they normally might not see. You could exhibit in as
many regions as you wanted. Anyone could handle in it.Most of all it would
truly be a "breeders" showcase and not a novice handling venue that
eliminates anyone( including us) from participation. Sounded like a good
idea for the GSDCA..would generate more revenue for clubs..more of a
"picnic format" I even suggested the idea that different breeders/stud dog
owners could have their own "booths" so to speak..meet the stud dog in
person..and get to know different breeders in a more casual environment.
There would be judging but on a 'group basis..that is..the progeny class
would be judged..not individual puppies with a minimum number of puppies
needed for an entry.Only thing I didn't suggest was a cash jackpot, as I
was afraid that money would somehow corrupt the outcome..as money can often
do. Sounded like fun..many thought it would be fun as evidenced by the
public support on this List..Too bad "management" didn't seem interested,
maybe because it wasn't a "management" idea, perhaps? Glad to see that an
individual in a "management" position decided to incorporate the idea!
Nothing I can think of that GSD folks like more than to look at promising
youngsters! Christine
