OK list I need help. I've got eight puppies born by c-section Sunday about
4
am. they were all very vigorous at birth now I notice the smallest seems to
be fading. She was laying for a long time on the heating pad, and I fear
dehydration. Someone once mentioned a formula for milk
replacement.....condensed
milk, kayo syrup, egg yolk or something ....I have a bottle. she seems to
be
an inefficient nurser.
I can get Esimilac at a local farm & fleet, would that be better?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Do NOT FEED THE PUPPY.She cannot nurse because she is weak. Check for cleft
palate. Palate should not have a deep line going north to south. Puppies
that are fading, or not doing well cannot digest. This pup needs hydration
immediately. Go to the supermarket, and get some Pedialyte, and give 10 cc's by

mouth with a syringe every two hours around the clock. Go slow, and do not
choke the pup. The druggist can sell you a syringe if you don't have one. Make
sure not to overheat pup, leave space for pup to crawl away from heating pad.
Ideally this pup should have sub- cutaneous
lactated ringers 10 cc every two hours. (get from vet). Esbilac is fine as a
replacement for mother's milk, but you should try to get some colostrum out
of the bitch, and syringe it into the puppy, if possible. A decent formula for
puppies that are DOING WELL is one can evap. milk, two egg yolks, two glugs
Karo syrup, 5 oz water, half cup yogurt, all mixed well, and strained thru a
large strainer. Feed with a regular human baby bottle and nipple. Warm to
body temp, (the dog's).
