As someone who used to regularly climb the Sierra peaks with the dogs back some
40 years ago, I would love to drag that owner's sorry butt up that mountain
trail barefooted and leave him up there for a week. After that he may become a
bit more aware of just how stupid and uncaring he is. And since he is a human
animal, the rangers can go up and rescue him after his week is up. I would let
him find his own way home. Or not.
Our dogs knew how to be roped up, would stay until called, slow down on command
while we helped them up hard sections, and they would wear boots when needed.
They loved those trips and one signed the register on top of Mt Conness. And
never once did they stay behind.
