I don't know...everyone I have talked to IS excited about the National. Most of us are working hard to get ready, organized, trained, in the right weight ( the dogs ) and coat and READY with WAY over stuffed luggage. Can't say ANY of us are excited about having to leave a dog behind OR a 3 day drive coming and going. But.. I actually spoke to a friend in LA that is even happy about that. Like most of us he is just excited to be going to the National with a good dog and a chance to see friends and other dogs again and seeing new Country on the way. OR ....maybe...he was drinking!! <G> Also gotta say... I've never been around GSD people that are NOT exactly as you have described below about people with other Breeds. We loan dryers, shampoo, treats, etc. to tough competition, help people change flats, charge batteries, clean show sites that are not ours...offer space for 'things' and dogs....and help other Clubs clean up and even set up at times. Once when caught in Atlanta coming into a National, Delta was dumping dogs from the connecting flight, as they over-booked dogs, and some were offering to be the ones dumped for a later flight, etc. I was actually bringing in someone else's dog for them on my flight. NOBODY Likes to lose..but I always see handlers shaking hands, saying good things about the other dog...owners giving hugs to those who beat them badly...and in terrible rain storms, many standing under one or two canopies laughing and joking and suffering together. I literally am not aware of the CONTRAST?? This IS the internet and we can't always read someone's demeanor, But...I honestly don't think asking questions and hoping for more information before we leave, is criticizing the Purina show site facilities? Carolyn marhaven@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx www.marhaven.com -----Original Message----- From: "" <dmarc-noreply@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> (Redacted sender "walflwr2@xxxxxxx" for DMARC) A Tale of 2 Nationals I have recently returned from a national held all week long last week. Before the national in this breed people were excited, posting they couldn't wait to get there and have fun with their friends, from the USA and several foreign countries. There was great anticipation at seeing beautiful dogs, spending time with folks they haven't seen since last year and all the great activities planned. This national encompassed agility, herding, obedience, rally as well as conformation. During the entire week, participants cheered each other on, congratulated winners, gave the losers a hug and a pat on the back. They dealt with scheduling glitches, errors on rosettes, crowded conditions for grooming, etc., etc., etc. Basically all the problems that are inherent with a big do show or any large event. Everyone survived, most with a smile still on their face. After it was over, people were trying to get home with or without dogs in the middle of the huge airport screw-up. People were making the best of it, posting on FaceBook the progress they were making (or not making) in their travels. We commiserated, offered to retrieve them from the airport, bring anything they might need to whichever airport where they were stranded. Still, through all of this, people were still making jokes about it and grinning and baring it. Then I got home. What a contrast. Because I had little to no internet connection for the week I came home to hundreds of posts from German Shepherd Dog people complaining about everything they could think of associated with this year's national. No one seemed happy to be going. There were multiple complaints about a facility that most have never seen. A facility that that above mentioned club used last year and will be going back to in 2017 for their nationals. A facility that has hosted multiple nationals and large shows. Complaints about flooring on which they have never set foot. Of parking they have yet to see. Complaints about hotels, restaurants, you name it. Please folks, can you at least give the show a chance before trashing everything about it?
