Vension is a very good alternative from what I've been told. Depends on the
state but where deer hunting is popular, it can probably be obtained pretty
cheaply. People like to hunt more than they like to eat vension, so about this
time of year when freezers are being cleaned out in anticipation of summer,
deals can be had.
I could probably get you a lot of free vension, but I have no idea how I
would get it to you.

PS - dogs can be allergic to raw food - I had a whippet that was allergic to
raw chicken.
You bring up a good topic. What do people do with a dog that is allergic to
kibble AND raw food?
I think one of the guys at the shelter ( a pit mix) is suffering from exactly
that, and that makes him less than ideal for adoption. We are trying the
Venison food right now, and he is doing sort of ok, but can you imagine that to
be a condition to adopt him? Very expensive food. I am trying to get a vet to
adopt this dog, otherwise he is a candidate to be PD. Very sad.
