Well, I don't know about anyone else, but I wasn't thinking of carbon
monoxide at all. flying pets in the hold of a plane where there is dry ice
can kill them...breathing carbon dioxide in an enclosed space can (and
does) kill...humans as well as pets.
Dry ice requires special handling....not only is it terribly cold, but
while it doesn't exactly melt and turn to water, it constantly produces
carbon dioxide gas so can't be stored in a sealed container...the
pressure buildup can cause the container to explode. The space must be
ventilated or it will fill with the gas and suffocate any living thing
there...this includes carrying dry ice in a vehicle of any kind. As
someone else has said, the gas is heavier than air and sinks...this is
one of the reasons it is used by exterminators....cautiously, because of
the chance of explosion. There are places where minors aren't allowed
to purchase dry ice.
