Thanks Evan, I needed those words, especially today.
I feel so much guilt lately. I see so many "have-nots" and DAILY receive
numerous solicitations from "fav" charities, St. Jude, Children's Hospital,
Boys Town, local food banks, veterans charities...even walking out of a
restaurant the other day w/ DM, we "found" a box for a collection for a local
food bank. The priest on Sunday mentioned when he first came to our
parish, the parish had a request for 21 Thanksgiving food baskets. This year
it
is over 80. Our parish isn't what one would usually think of as "needy" so
I don't dare let my mind wander to those less fortunate locations... it's
a privilege to be in a position to be able to help but by the same token
how can I not feel guilty when I go to Costco later this month and buy dog
food, when the same dollars would buy over 188 really good meals for hungry
people???? Yes, I did the math...sick huh???? Not to mention $$$ spent on
vet bills (and thankfully not for sick dogs, just routine "stuff").
So, anyway, I've been feeling pretty guilty on the $$$ spent on my
hobby....

schools, Christmas wrapping, and animal shelters. I see so much pain
throughout
the world, including my own credit cards, and mortgages that at times it
seems a bottomless hole. Everyone gets a piece and yet needs more.
I give free legal services as often as I can, and work seven days a week
in
order to get the work done for the clients so that I do have the money to
do the other things.
Everyone has to pick where to give and how much. No one should be
criticized for what they pick and each has their own reasons. Only you
can decide
what is important to you. There is no end to the needs, only a limit to
the resources.
All are deserving of our attention, but there is a limit for each of us.
From the donation to the GSDCA for our membership to the local shelter,
food for our children, medical care for orphans in Kenya, or a pet that
needs
rescue. There are some who spend hours to keep the List running, or to
help their disabled child, or sick spouse. There are some of us struggling
to
overcome adversity, and to survive another day.
It is a personal decision and no one should be criticized for their
decision. We each do the best we can to get through the day, and be there
to
enjoy another.
