This is a NATIONAL CLUB and that won't change just because we can't have a National Show in every corner of the Country, nor does it eliminate Regional Clubs because we cannot have a National Show in the back yard of every Regional Club. Some things, for many reasons just won't work no matter how ideal it would be, or how much we would all love to have it that way someday. What WOULD make it a "regional" show is that it is so difficult to get a dog there, that only the people in that region would have easy access. It's a big Nation with airlines downsizing....... Call me nuts.........but I see it as 'a cup half FULL' if we have the National more accessible to EVERYONE EVERY year..... instead of easy access for someone some day.......?? MY POINT EXACTLY -- You do not want to pay it - but you expect those on the coasts to pay it each a and every year --- that is definitely a regional mentality. Just calling it National does not make it so. Goldens seem to move the show routinely and they are large dogs with the same travel issues as GSDs and their show is far larger. Ruth > From: Ruth Scheubler rightdogphoto@xxxxxxxxx> I believe the question is really simple -- do we want to be a NATIONAL club or a regional club? ****************************************************** So here is my question to Ruth.. Just because a National club choses to keep their National Specialties in a centrally located area, does that mean it is a "regional" club? And if so, why? To run a National specialty, you still need people from everywhere to work, right? DCA does mostly centrally located specialties, but our club has people from all over the country doing the work - it is a NATIONAL specialty, not a regional specialty. Think about this, PCA (Poodle Club of America) holds one of the biggest National Specialties in America and they have held it at the SAME location for the last however many years (I know of at LEAST 20 years)... It's still a National club... As was pointed out before, the economy and the times are changing - its time for the clubs to catch up (and that includes ALL of them).. We need to start thinking about the membership and what works best for them. As much as I love rotating specialties, I would certainly think twice before I had to pay an astronomical plane ticket to either coast.
