[ SHOWGSD-L ] Evan update -- no need to respond (PLEASE!)

I KNEW I should never have let Evan back at the computer so soon!
Just to clarify, the surgery did take 9 hours but Ev still has his stomach.
The surgeon removed his esophagus and restructured part of his stomach to
work as the esophagus. His stomach's smaller but will stretch back to it's
normal size eventually. In the meantime, he's sucking ice cubes to retrain
the
swallowing mechanism and taking food in liquid form thu a stomach tube.
Everyone at the hospital was amazed at how hard he worked at walking and
getting back on his feet. It speeded up his recovery so, with that and the
holiday, the doctor let him come home today.
I can't say enough good things about the City of Hope Hospital. It's not
just because they're a good facility, it's because all of the people who work
there try to make the patient's stay as good as it can be -- contrary to what
Ev says. <g>
