I think this is a great idea! If each regional club adopted it, imagine the
impact in 10 years!
It would be a simple thing, a club , non AKC special class, more like a
presentation. But allowing the little guys (under ten) to participate and
show
off their dogs. Each child gets a token gift and it could be done easily
during a lunch break. Each child wins.
This is done at a very early age in lead line and walk trot classes with
horses , they REALLY get into it. There are even stick horse classes for the
teeny tiny tots. It generates enthusiasm with the kids, and "hooks" them
early.
The problem with waiting until the age of ten is by then , kids are usually
already involved in other things, and have lost no interest anymore, or have
no time to be involved with dogs.
Our membership is aging and waning dramatically, we have few
replacements....gotta start somewhere.
