But, remember, Carolyn, that some of those board members were intimidated by
threat
of a personal law suite as a result of their vote. What a shame !

Subject: [ SHOWGSD-L ] Eh? NO GAG ORDERS??
When I was on the Board and the vote passed for a certain " puppy mill" to be
allowed to become a
member of this Club.....we were informed that we were NOT to let anyone know
how we voted!!! Myself
and a few others informed the Board that we fully intended to openly and
honestly say how we voted.
At that time......people were enraged and on the List were trying to figure out
on their own how the vote
went down and one person actually had MY NAME on the YES list!! Didn't even
give me time to get
home and get my life back together to respond about my vote ( which was a HUGE
NO!! )<G>
THAT Is how crucial it is that the Board members be allowed to speak often,
openly and at will.....
Why not? Just ONE good reason?
Obviously it is good for the President to inform the membership through the
'official' method of the results
of a vote.......but ...there is no reason for ANY Board member to not be able
to answer any questions
( except Closed Meetings of course....) and be able to express THEIR opinion
AND their vote!
THAT IS WHY THEY VOTE!!!
THERE ALMOST IS NEVER "ONE VOICE"......and why should any Board member be
held to
silence on why or how they voted the way they did??
What difference does it make what "List" a Board member belongs to when they
speak of the results of
a meeting. Are Board members now required to be associated with all...... or
certain Lists before they
have a right to answer questions or inform someone of the results of a vote or
meeting" What about
being at a dog show two days later......are they not allowed to speak about the
meeting we pay to get them
to because it is a show in the East and not in the West???
WHAT is wrong with this thinking...........??
Board members are not required to be in agreement or "one voice" with any
Executive Committee at any time!!
These meetings are supposed to be open to the General Public where we can hear
the discussion AND
see, and witness the vote! WHO CARES which "List" or which phone call or
which dog show gets the
news first?? We all need and want to get the news, the count, the why, the
who......that helps US know
how to vote!
The only problem is if everyone is 'poised and ready' to attack because they
don't get the news soon enough!
Often as in the case of this recent hurricane or travel....the Board is often
just a TAD PRE OCCUPIED with
their own life first ............and we should give them that time....
Just my own opinion.......<G>

In light of that statement and what Morgan refers to below as censorship, it in
fact is just that.
Above you say the Exec members says they only want one voice for the club,
which I don't have
a problem with, but when that voice is controlled by the exec committee, it is
in fact a form of
censorship. Never has the president of this club ever had to have the EC
approve anything that
gets put out.
It is not the function of an executive committee and should not be now. Their
purpose is to deal
with exigent matters and BOG and CC's are far from that.
But hey, we have been told there are no gag orders...perhaps we are using the
wrong term.
