Linda -- Maybe it is a touch of old age,or maybe there's something in
that dirt that he's enjoying and/or needs,and maybe the other dogs are into
a "monkey see,monkey do" pattern. Not unlike some of the high school kids
that I teach. I like your temporary fence/grass seed idea, with a couple of
cans of pepper around the edges just for good measure. Of course he might
just open a new restaurant somewhere else. Please report back someday.This
is interesting.

Linda, one of my old ( 13 ) bitches did this. The vet said she was
trying to get
minerals that might be lacking due to her age. DO NOT put out mothballs
in any form.
They are poisonous.

Maybe someone has some ideas!
I have an area on the back side of my pool that the dogs insist on =
eating
the dirt!
It started with my old dog, he is 12. I figured he's going kooky. he =

EAT huge holes in the ground, like a foot+ deep.
We would fill the holes, put cinder blocks on top.He would just do it =
right
next to that.
well now EVERYONE has joined in.I'll look out and someone will have =

head SO deep in the hole you can't see their head!
This only happens in this one spot behind the pool.

How can I stop this? WHY are they eating dirt??

the only solution I thought might work is filling the areas again, then
covering the area with fencing until grass is established in that spot, =

there anything I could mix with the dirt when we fill it this time that =

deter the dogs? Crushed mothballs or something?
