By no means am I an authority on EPI, but here is my story:
I have a severe case of EPI in my ten and a half yr old male. He was diagnosed
eight years ago . His reading (blood work from Texas A&M) was less than 1. He
eats two meals per day consisting of Purina EN dry, Pedigree canned chicken and
rice, fresh cooked chicken breast (boneless & skinless) and Vio-Kase V plus one
vitamin daily. This male is hard & dry ,very active in good weight with a
shiny coat. In addition he eats Iams Large dog biscuits daily. He has normal
stools, except for the color, and rarely ever even has a soft stool.
Of course, I ended his show career once he was diagnosed and he is not used for
breeding. I also believe that this condition is hereditary.
While this is a very expensive diet to maintain him on, it works for him.

I don't necessarily want to get into this discussion, but I can understand
erner's point of view. Instead of having all the stuff that dog food has in it,
dog on the prey model diet (only meat), might have an easier time digesting
TRICT pure protein and bone. Raw food also causes the digestive tract to
roduce healthy enzymes that can break down the bone and meat.
aw food, plus a combination of the right medication might be the right thing
ince there are fewer "other" ingredients involved. You would just have to
witch your protein sources carefully for a while. No veggies as they are a
ittle more work for dogs to digest (if properly prepared) and definately no
arbs...
MHO... Not looking for a war today.
