I agree with Julie. Unfortunately, winning seems to be the ONLY
reason some people show. Sure, it's great to win, but at what cost?
At the cost of a dog's life? Dyeing, drugging, breaking tails,
finishing fast. . .only to have the dog DROP DEAD at 2 or younger
because the breeder/exhibitor/handler didn't pay attention to the
obvious "problem lines" in the pedigree? Oh but it's BIG BUSINESS--
sell for thousands--something goes wrong--it's NOW the owners'
problems. Believe me, I've gone through that. Some breeders don't
want to know you if you have a problem. All they care about is the
next star and the next big win. And when some dogs do finish but have
outlived their usefulness, what happens? I've heard of whole kennels
being put down. Sickening. Like I said before, I don't know the
answer--but drug testing and hair sampling MIGHT be a start.

As for dying and drugs...well it's all part of this busines thing...I
think a lot of people just don't care about the health of this breed.
All that is important is winning. Some people are in this for the
wrong reasons..winning ribbons at all cost so that will boost their
selfesteem!! Too bad so sad for this wonderful breed.
I'm all for testing if it can be done. Health registry where we can
see why those dogs passes away so young and see the ones that have
good health and live 13th years. I think it's time we get our heads
out of the sand and start acting on those issues. From hiding those
things we are not helping this breed. IMHO
