Mike, there are no entry fees for most horse races.
There are some graded stakes races and some races that require nominations,
(sometimes there is a smallish fee to nominate), and if you enter/nominate
late, there are supplemental fees, but the vast majority of the time, you
won't see fees listed in what's called a "condition book".
Race tracks make their $$$$ from the mutual pools (bets placed). In some
states, they have combines slots w/ tracks for the off season.
Horsemen are actually courted to stable their horses (no charge), train at the
location (no charge) and enter horses.
