Subject: [ SHOWGSD-L ] Dumb Vets

Yesterday I got a call from one of my pet buyers with a 3 1/2 month old puppy.
They bought a beautiful longcoat that has gone quite extreme in the rear.
Usually my puppies don't have enough and get it later. Anyhow they took the
puppy to their vet for shots and the vet tech started going on about how the
puppy was crippled. So they made an appointment with a neurologist, who thought
this was abnormal also, although all tests done that day were normal. Anyhow
he wanted to schedule the puppy for a MRI and whatever else they do for lots of
money. Fortunately they called me and I told them I wanted to see the puppy and
they were at my house in less than two hours (80 miles away). They let him out
and he ran to play with two littermates and I saw nothing abnormal, except a
puppy with rear. I then made an appointment with my breeder vet, who has
evening appointments and they drove another hour to happily be told that , in
her opinion, they had a cpmpletely normal German
Shepherd puppy. One of the meds the neuologists had put him on was
Doxycycline, a big NoNo for puppies. The wife had been crying for 3 days,
certain that this puppy was as sure as dead.

They will take any unsuspecting soul for all the money they can, it's a shame.
My Himalayan cat was diagnosed with a heart murmur ( 9 years ago), she doesn't
like people too much and keeps to herself and the other cats most of time,
sometimes comes up and sits with me. My old vet wanted to do EKG's and heart
monitioring and such for over $400.00 (not that my cat isn't worth it mind
you...but...) Like I said she freaks for strangers and if we get company we
don't see her for about a week..lol.... so I asked how bad it was...she said a
level 1..... long story somewhat shorter.... 9 years later she's still alive
and well, and I believe the tests would have stressed her out and caused more
damage, and my new vet agreed with me.
