[ SHOWGSD-L ] Dub Day Afternoon

complex, I am blessed to be able to have Dubya and Naughty (Dad and Daughter)
living with me. I was taking Dubya down for his after dinner walk and I saw
this VERY distingushed gray haired Lady setting on the couch by the front door.
She watched us walk down the hall and when we got closer, she said, what a
beautiful dog! I thanked her and told her that he was as sweet as he is big! I
asked her if she'd like to meet him. "Oh, GOODNESS! I have been so afraid of
dogs all my life", she says.
I walked a couple of steps towards her as I told her he was a 4th generation
Therapy Dog. "OH GOODNESS! what a sweet face he has".............and I walked a
couple of steps closer as I told her about doing therapy work and some of the
break throughs we have had with them..........and we were right next to the
couch where she was setting. She had her eyes locked on his, and commented
about what soft eyes he had.
It was a few more minutes and I asked if she'd like to pet him........she
said she had never touched a dog before. I held my hand out to her and she gave
me her hand....together we petted Dub as I slipped my hand away. The look on
her face was nothing short of amazing! She stroked and stroked him with the
most beautiful smile on her face!!!!! She literally could not believe that at
70, she FINALLY was petting a dog. She looked at me with a big old grin, "Look
what I have been missing!"
To often in this life we don't stop to smell the roses with our
dogs.........and we pass up those special times when we could have made such a
difference in someone's life. Mo
