That is exactly why the suggestion was made to have a permanent HISTORICAL
COMMITTEE, with Dorothy, & Tom Brown on that committee – the Booklet to be
entitled “THE EARLY YEARS” authored by Tom was to be part of the Centennial –
Tom’s booklet was full of great stories of our past. Tom’s booklet was
shelved in favor of a book covering our 100 years – a tough job – a new
Historical Committee was appointed by our President & Board.

I remember Reginald Cleveland way back when. It was the day of the St. Louis
Specialty, I got brave and entered my 7 year old German Import in Veterans, my
very first show. I arrived with a leather collar on the dog to which was
attached a chain lead with a little red handle. Am sure ringside was
entertained - Reginald stood in the middle of the ring with a mike and
thoroughly described each and every dog!!! What an education!!

In those days both sexes of the Veterans were shown together. In the Veterans
Class was none other than GV Ch Bonnie Bergere (sp) of Kenrose who won the
class of course and then went on to BOB. The rules for Veterans in those days
were very different. My dog with the chain lead was 2nd to GV Bonnie in a
large class of some 18 Veterans . Reginald asked ringside to “help the young
lady with her presentation”. The first person to approach me was Joe Poepping
of the great producing Bel Vista Kennels followed closely by Scootie Sherlock
and Pat Parsons. Joe ended up using my Import in his breeding program and
Scootie Sherlock spent hours going through the German Koer books to produce a
complete evaluation of our dogs pedigree. Turns out I had a very competitive
German Dog with “PINK PAPERS” and the SV Stamp and didn’t even know it. Some
of the other well knows at the show were Bill and Ginny Collins, Art Hess,
Dave & Martha Reinke, Allen Sandall, Tom Plager, Jim Moses, Barbara Amidon –
as Dorothy says “Oh what memories”

If Dorothy Linn ever wrote a book on her life story that's a book I'd love to
read! Another Great West Coast Lady! Ed

Dorothy Lynn wrote the following:

I recognize Sharon Penny (Gibson) with Ch Walmar's Bravada, and I certainly see
me with Ch Von Freyas Aeric. . Both these dogs just about won everything in
those days. After taking majors at the Sonomarin Specialty,( the entires were
so large, they had to have two judges) Bill Goldbecker judged , and I was in
the ring with Aerics class for 4 hours at a walk, while he sat in the middle
of the ring on an easy chair. The Specialty lasted from 8AM until 6:30 PM
<x-apple-data-detectors://0> .

Soon after, both Aeric and Bravada took took BOB and BOS at the huge L A
Specialty under two judges, Bill Goldbecker again, and Ernie Loeb. They were
both progeny of Ch Linnloch Brigadier. In those days, most of the owners of his
progeny couldn't afford professional handlers, so I did the job for them for
nothing as I was not and never was, a pro.

What memories!

Dorothy

I see Rhonda listed, and yesterday Jack Friedberg called. I hadn't heard from
him in over ten years. What a coincidence.

We get to have Gloria and Cappy for house guests this weekend, so we can look
at the film and reminisce.
