One time when my GS Sedona was about 15 months old & never swam once in her
life did a visit at our cousin Diane/Bill's lake home in MN. Their Golden
Retriever Ike loved the water. He would swim every day while at the cabin.
Matter of fact he would stand at the waters' edge & put his whole head under
the water scanning for whatever. Sedona watching this act would bark at him
when he would put his head under for some time scanning for whatever. So
then, Diane wanted to show us how Ike would dive off the end of the dock
swimming back to shore. The water was deep at the end of the dock. Sedona no
way wanted to follow in Ike's escapade. Sedona is at the end of the dock
watching Ike swim when Diane comes behind us & pushed Sedona off the dock. I
was shocked watching her go under the water & waiting for her to come back
up. Just as I'm going in after her she comes to the surface & frantically
swims to shore. It was the most frightening moment for my dog & me. And
expressed that to my cousin as well who should've never done such a thing.
I've known of dogs that never came back up.
