Back 10 yrs ago, i was told down pasterns was genetics. My male KC is 10 yrs old, had not flat, but they were half way, if anyone remembers that... HUGE mistake was listening to people who told me to take him off of the high protein foods, because through some research we did after, removing him from all the things puppies "need" we may have contributed, perhaps to his elbow issue, ALTHOUGH, again, UAP is said to be genetics. Now had we kept him on the nutrients he should have been on.. maybe he could have had the skeletal strength to withstand him recovering better when he was slammed against the wall flying down the stairs by the 90lb akita which happened a few weeks before he went lame discovering the elbow issue. We never really knew and i do believe genetics is responsible for a great deal of issues in GSD's ALONG WITH environment, early spaying/neutering, vaccines etc.. I fed my B - K litter Royal Canin Maxi Babydog 30 until they are 25 weeks old and have never had down pasterns since KC was little. Not one of my pet homes have had it, out of Catja nor Yani, as 90 percent have complied with the contractual agreement to feed this food until 5 months, and then they switch to Taste of the Wild or whatever breeder approved "better" food they wish to feed. Here are the stats of the food. 461 calories 30 protein, 22 fat, 1.8 fiber .90 - 1.25 calcium, .70 - .90 phosphorus, 390mg glucosemine, 110mg chondroitin KC still has soft feet, he never did go back up 100% but he also has that bad elbow :( Dawnmarie In a message dated 10/24/2010 2:27:27 P.M.
