Here is the scary part. If wheat is being imported from other Countries due to
the lack of avaliability in the U.S. What is to say humans won't suffer the
same fate as the animals. If you think ALL imported wheat is checked and
designated for either human or animal consumption, you are wrong. Grains and
grasses that come in from other Countries only have to meet minimum
requirements to get here and be used for whatever the buyer wants.
I am allergic to wheat so I don't have a worry. Tho, I do miss shredded wheat
and Cream of Wheat cereal. Because of my allergy, I keep my dogs off anything
that contains wheat as well. It is a high allergen. I feed mostly raw anyway
and don't think dogs need grains unless you need to add some weight. In that
case, I use brown rice, wild rice, millet or Quimoa.
But, wheat is not the only problem. Remember not so long ago the tainted corn?
The Taco Bell and spinach scares? This is not just an animal issue. We, as
consumers, need to be just as vigilant with our own foods as with our animals.
