[ SHOWGSD-L ] Re: Do dogs have memories ?

I just now experienced something that assures me they do have memories, and
also are creatures of habit.
A brief background I have a neighbor (Barbara) who lives across the street, her
Golden Retriever died about 6-7 years ago, since that time she has become the
"best friend" to my GSD. I had 5 when I moved here, they all loved her. Over
the years because of age and or illness etc, they are all gone except one, who
thinks neighbor Barbara is the next best thing to anyone or anything.
Anyway, I have a BAD cold and I have been trying to over come the injuries from
a fall I took this past Tuesday,(just call me scar face) !
Usually when ever Barbara comes over, she of course comes in, or Solo meets her
at the door. Barbara knows where the "cookie" jar is and she never leaves with
out walking to the jar and giving Solo one (milk bone) cookie.
Just minutes ago Solo kept bugging me and nudging me to get up. I didn't feel
like getting up, but I relented as I passed the front door I could see that
Barbara had put the Sunday paper on my doorstep. Of course Solo wanted me to
know I should have asked her in, so that she could get her cookie. To late
Barbara was all ready back across the street and inside her house. Solo would
not take "no cookie" for an answer she kept circling me, running to the room
where they are kept, and insisted I should give her the cookie that she
obviously missed from her next best friend Barbara.
Sucker that I am I relented......now I can go back to bed. Solo is happy and
will remain that way until the clock approaches 5:30-6 PM.
I will then once again get that cold nose nudge in my face.
Gotta LOVE 'em, and those wonderful traits, guardian, loyal friend, occasional
comedian, and the ability to remember and understand just about anything and
everything.
