Starting in 2008, and through the summer of 2009, we were having lots of missed
pregnancies at the Labrador kennel. We have never used Diamond foods.
We use progesterone testing, and the studs are on the property.
However, starting in September, 2009, we have had a litter of 13 pups, several
10 pup litters, and an 8 pup litter. Two of the bitches, who we have never
been able to get pregnant, where in the group who whelped a 10 pup litter, and
an 8 pup litter. Another interesting thing - we use to have too many still
births, or pups who died shortly after birth. We lost no pups in the 13 pup
litter, 1 pup in a 10 pup litter, and 1 pup in the 8 pup litter.
The size of the pups at 8 weeks of age, has also improved.
What changed? Well, for one thing, I adjusted the Ivermectin dosage we use
each month, to a much lower dosage. The next thing I did was eliminate the
"routine" use of Cephalexin when the bitches came into season. My boss
started this anti-biotic ritual many years ago. I am not a fan of treating
nothing just because it could be something.
Did these two changes make a difference? Well, we have PUPPIES now. We even
have 2 chilled semen litters when the previous chilled semen litters failed.
The real test will be next week when we have a frozen surgical done. The last
time a frozen surgical was done, all 5 bitches failed to be in whelp, even
though they were each implanted from a different stud.
This may not be the answer for others, but I am not going to argue with success.

We quit feeding it too.. besides bad stools & bad coats, we spoke to other
reeders who fed it and we all lamented on the number of missed
regnancies on proven bitches.. Hopefully 2010 will bring some babies..
