these dogs are amazing. von saar's headliner was the first dog to work at
the motion picture home and hospital in woodland hills, CA (he even had his own
ID card<G>). liner was wonderful with every resident and patient there but
there was one man i will never forget. the man was only 27 years old, a former
cameraman who had been in MPCHH for 3 years when liner and i started visiting
4 times a week. apparently, when the man was 24, he and his family were at
the beach and he head dove into a wave. when his head connected with the
packed
sand beneath the water, he became a quadraplegic; the only thing he could
move was his eyes. i was a little hesitant when we first visited him - liner
was
a LARGE dog and this poor man had so many lines running that i was afraid of
liner getting too close to the bed and becoming entangled in some of them.
WRONG! the look in the man's eyes when he saw the beautiful GSD standing next
to his bed was one of happiness and love. liner got up onto the bed very
gently, careful not to touch anything, and laid next to him for almost an hour.
it
was amazing. from then on, until he died, for one hour, four times a week,
liner snuggled next to his favorite patient.
