Ah, glad this subject came up --- for all of you who need to know the TRUTH
ABOUT MANGE!
Please pay attention to what I'm saying here. There are a number of types
of mange. Sarcoptic &
Demodex are the most common. Sarcoptic will be first seen on legs, hind end
area etc. and is
quite contagious as these mites do move off from the affected area more
often, even humans can
get this one. We will see the Demodex begin on the muzzle and head area
first. OK
What this REALLY is --- a bug, parasite --- external rather than internal!!
They are microscopic!

Now, when the Vet tells you that this comes from the DAM he/she is correct!
However, NOT
as in genetic etc. BUT -- as the pups nurse, these bugs will move from the
hair follicles of the bitch
onto the pups. They may lay dormant for the life of the dog, or when stress
is present, some will
activate, and it'll usually show up when the pup is between 4 - 8 months of
age during the growth
period of time. OK -- there is really only one sure way to avoid these
mites, as they are called!
As soon as the pup comes out of the sack ---- do NOT allow him/her to go
near the dam but
bottle feed that youngster in a clean area to him/her self. It is the
biggest old wives tale in dogdom.
Spaying and/or neutering an animal will not affect the mites at all.
Spaying a bitch because it is
thought the ailment will be passed on to the offspring because that
particular animal has had the
Demodex is totally false. Dipping and, as you say, the ivermec (sp.)
etc. will kill off the mites
and cause a healing of the sores but not always all of them. They might
have eggs that hatch &
become active later if the dog is in any kind of stress but then, there are
cases where they never
appear again. PAY ATTENTION TO THIS POST AS IT IS IMPORTANT INFO! Norma
