"We feed the dam a raw diet and she in turn feeds a regurgitated raw diet to the puppies. That is how it should begin." Your dams regurgitate to their pups? How in the heck did you get them to do this?? Colleen Donnelly RivendellP <rivendellp@xxxxxxxxxxx> wrote: Helen posts... Through extensive tests and lab work they determined that it was the raw meat that killed them. Adult dogs are carrion eaters and equipped to digest dead animals, young puppies are not. Bacteria and toxins in the meat produce intera-toxins that hits the heart of the puppy and they are fine one minute, dead the next. [In the wild, the dam would chew, swallow and regurgitate the food. The stomach of the dam kills the excess bacteria.] Paul opines... I put in [ ] a highly important part of Helen's post. This IS how our puppies get their initial raw meals. We feed the dam a raw diet and she in turn feeds a regurgitated raw diet to the puppies. That is how it should begin. After they are weaned we start to supplement their gruel with chopped raw chicken, nuked veggies, and a supplement that is formulated specifically for young puppies and also an immune enhancer. It has been a long time since I opted to post on feeding. Over a year ago I got ridiculed (by some...and one on "Da List" who is now feeding raw) for such tripe and trying to put information like formulation of commercial kibbles on "Da List". It will probably be even longer when I do it again. Raw food does not kill...but it could. Damn folks...kibble can kill if you believe in porous kibbles that swell and can lead to bloat and torsion. Everyone has a story and rarely is it good. We've raised healthier puppies on our regimen and that's been for many years. I approach the whole thing from a Mother Nature prospective...what does she feed her animals? I've studied her style for over 10 years and have come to the conclusion her ideas are better than Nutro's or Eukanuba's. Hell folks...commercial kibble didn't exist 50 years ago...how did they manage until then? Nuff said...as I posted to Babarar...feeding is a personal thing. I don't try and presume to know more than others and I do try and relate what has worked well for us and proven to be good for dogs in general. I know when Nutro sent me to "Canine Nutrition School", I thought I DID know...not. They taught me what THEY wanted me to know. We feed some of our dogs kibble. Canidae for now as the ingredient panel says it's one of the best. Human Grade, no corn, wheat, soy, or by-product meal...4 of the 1st 7 ingredients are human grade meat proteins. That's more important to my dogs than it is to me. They all still get meat tho...dogs are omnivores. Sigh...
