I thought you could always change the name. I even have a form that I was
going to use to change Raymond's name. He is called Frederick on his
registration but has always been named Raymond. I was not told prior to
registering him that he should have an "R" name. I don't think that this is
"new" is it? Cynthia vande001@xxxxxxxxx

Look. The AKC is a business. It is not government, (that is just there to
protect the citizens), it is not family, (that is there to love and honor you),
and it is not your best friend, (who is there to loan you money). On the way to
making money as a business, the AKC has to build credibility, establish
standards, and serve those who want to be part of the business. Changing a
name? Hell, that is not going to make dog shows more or less fun, take the
sport to a new level, or affect most of us. The breeder still has to respond to
a change of a dog's name. It can't be changed without our signature, and
shouldn't make a big difference. But, it might make some pet buyers satisfied.
As to stealing dogs and adding names to sell them for more money, I don't see
that as a threat. What kennel name would make a dog more valuable to a buyer
who probably wouldn't know the name anyway? I recognize that the AKC is a
business, and they try to find ways to serve the customers. We are the
customers, and if we don't like the service, then we have the right to go
elsewhere, (there sure are a lot of other registries now), or find a new hobby.
I understand a lot of people don't like the change of credit cards at Cosco,
and so they are leaving and going to Sam's club. I don't like everything the
AKC does, but whenever I have a problem with them, they seem to work hard to
help. So far, I prefer AKC to UKC, ARBA or the other systems. But, that remains
my choice. Not that there is anything wrong with that.
