Had same thing Carolyn, a dog w/ an anomaly barely in the x-ray...NOT in
the elbow. Vets were stumped. Came back DJD1. Sent to OVC, got a number
right away. (Too bad they aren't doing anymore).
My vets will no longer "call" an elbow x-ray. One even bough a special
light to view x-rays.
To the original question, I have noticed absolutely NO correlation in dogs
w/ pano and dogs who later come back w/ DJD. In fact as recently as 2
years ago two bitches were driving me crazy w/ heir limping, one I bred, one I
didn't. I swore they both had "elbows". Nope, both got #s but my God did
they have (head-bobbing lame) pano!
And yes, I absolutely will breed a dog w/ DJD1. Over the years have had a
number come back w/ DJD1, vets shaking their collective heads, dogs never
limped nor did they produce and of the other more serious elbow issues.

read the X-ray including UCDavis, and the only thing they could figure out
that made OFA unhappy was that there was a tiny slight "pimple" looking
bump about 2 inches down from the joint on her leg bone.
Nowhere NEAR the joint! The joint was fine!
( why they called that DJD is beyond our Vets and our understanding )
With the DJD the co owner spayed her....and worked her in heavy Agility
competition till she was almost 10 yrs.
Had her re-X-rayed at 6 yrs...NO changes.

took her to an orthopedic specialist and was diagnosed as pano. When it

time to OFA she came back with DJD on one elbow. Once she got through the
pano she never limped again. For some reason she was x-rayed around 6 and
the vet said the shading was there in the elbow but it pretty much looked
the same as when she was 2. So if it's called Degenerative Joint Disease
it
sure didn't change in 4 years.
