The following was included in the newsletter for SHCC, and while they are
mostly interested in Siberian Huskies, Kim informs me they would take
samples from other breeds as well. She is interested in dogs "whose
testicle(s) fail to descend for the first 6 months, but any that take some
time to descend are of interest too. It would be most beneficial to receive
samples from the affected dog, the parents, and any male siblings affected
or not, but she will take any combination as long as it includes an affected
male, neutered or not" Just email Kim and let her know how many dogs you
have to be sampled and she will send out a kit with sample collection
brushes, forms and instructions.

Urgent: DNA samples needed for the genetic study of retained testicles.

Dr. Max Rothschild at Iowa State University has a current research study
looking for the genetic mutations that cause retained testicles in dogs.

The Siberian Husky Club of America is helping to fund this important study
but samples from affected dogs are desperately needed to complete the study.

Simple cheek swabs are all that are needed and a quick trip to the post
office to mail them out - no trip to the vet to get blood drawn and also no
cost to you (other than the postage for mailing).

All information is strictly confidential. This could very well lead to a
genetic test for cryptorchidism (retained testicles). Please help with this
research.

For sample submission kits contact Kim Glenn at Iowa State at kim@xxxxxxxxxx
or 515-294-6202. any help with any sample collection is greatly appreciated.
