Hello Everyone, I wrote the original e-mail on this subject and my point really wasn't that we need to start our own registry, though I did mention what another breed had done. It was intended to be an example of the line of thinking that finally lead me to an idea.My e-mail was intended to pose a question. The GSDCA should consider having a parent club conformation title, similar to champion but not called that of course & maybe a little easier to acquire (maybe a different point system or something). This would be for novice or non pro exhibitors to handle their own dogs and to help them feel like they are learning & achieving something. AKC conformation is so competitive & expensive that many new people are intimidated and scared away. If they could hang around long enough to catch the real dose of the dog show bug that comes along with a little success then maybe they choose to stick it out. If you all would like to read my e-mail in it's entirety I believe Peggy pasted it into her e-mail to the list. If they were AKC recognized they'd probably have got into deep water with that move. The Australian Shepherd Club, like the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Club, have histories that predate those breeds being recognized by the AKC..by a long, long time...years. When those clubs started, AKC did not recognize those breeds. After AKC recognition, there were a lot of people who preferred the "old club" style of competitions...and they have managed to keep the old club in their breed going while continuing to register and compete in the AKC. I don't think you can just jump into starting your own registry...if nothing else, the AKC would probably suspend anyone involved in that....... Anyway, you can't use Aussies and Cavaliers as examples of separate registries, because those registries existed long before AKC recognition, as I stated above...and while there are AKC-only dogs in both breeds, most people do "dual-register" their dogs. ASCA shows are great...Cavalier club shows (non-AKC are much nicer than AKC shows...altho the number of dogs in competition is less than before AKC, it is still not unusual to have 150-200 Cavaliers at a club show weekend.
