The figure of $2,500 is a bit much. I didn't pay that much. I did know my
limits, and stuck to them, and when you do have a top quality dog, 99% of the
handlers will work with you to show a very top dog. I make payments when I
have to, and they all know that I will pay up, just be patient. I find that my
Visa card is getting up there, well, I sit out a few months until I can get it
down to a reasonable range. I use only one card, and charge 90% on it for the
shows, this being my food, motels, et all. This way I can control my expenses
and still enjoy my Hobby. When I have a litter, the puppy sales all go back on
the Visa or off to handlers. Handler Bonus' are somewhat a thing of the past.
I tell them UP front, what I plan to pay. IF they don't like it, well, I go
find someone that will show my dogs for that money. Here is the way I look at
it.... IF my Dr. tells a patient, it will be $ 4,000 to get that back surgery,
and if you are relieved of your pain by 100% then I get a bonus of an
additional $$$. YEAH right. Why would someone show my dog and not do the best
they can for the cost up front? My handlers put 110% into my dogs, and I will
usually give them a bonus...if my finances able me...and they know it up front.
Breed Top Quality dogs. Enjoy your dogs and Enjoy the shows. Believe in your
dogs...but, Know your limits!! This is a very, VERY fun sport.

Well, I'm a new comer, I've just been showing for a year, and I'm
suffering from some pretty severe breathing problems after hearing
that. Don't get me wrong, I have used handlers, I love them. They
show my dog to her best advantage, however, I can't even begin to
imagine affording that..........
