My husband (who is president of the Beaumont specialty club) went to the
site today and talked with the site manager and got a tour. Ken said it is a
great place for a rodeo but not for the national. The arena is open aired and
the stalls are not attached to the arena, they are also opened air with a
roof on top. The seating is stadium and it goes all the way down to the wall.
There is no room for doubling unless they let you down on the floor with the
dogs. No place for vendors, 25 RV electrical hookups, no sewer. Why would
you go there when you can have a covered arena with climate control, where the
stalls are connected to the arena and are also climate controlled, where the
management is bringing in electrical for every RV and have a dump station
for sewage and there is water there. Why wouldn't you want to got to a place
where the City and hotels are welcoming you with open arms. Go to the Ford
Center website and take another look. This is all about the board breaking a
contract that another board approved and moving the national out of Texas.
The Conroe site is all smoke and mirrors. We only live 45 minutes from the
Conroe site so we would love to say it would work for the national. My husband
is not on duty at the fire station tonight or tomorrow and he said he would
be glad to talk to anyone who wanted to know everything he saw. Email us
privately and we will send you his cell phone number. If the weather is good, I
will go to the site on Saturday and take pictures of the stalls and the arena.
