I think that with all of the negative publicity this situation has received, I
can see where people may possibly question why the GSDCA wants to make this dog
a hero.....? I am thinking that there are probably many people out there that
believe this dog is vicious - if we make publicity that we want to nominate him
for the Hero Dog award I think that may give US some negative publicity that we
sure don't need....how does this sound? "German Shepherd Dog Club of America
Nominates Vicious Dog for Hero Award".....perhaps we need to slow down a bit
here.....? JMHO

I would have to disagree about this being good publicity for the
GSDCA. I did write letters to the judge stating why the dog should
not be declared vicious and should not be put down, but I don't agree
he should be nominated for a Hero Dog Award. I live less than 20
miles from where this happened and the more I read about it the more
it sounds like a case where the dog(s) AND the owners need more
training. Mrs. James was not intentionally thrown to the ground by
the worker, he was hiding behind her and fell to the ground, and some
say he pulled her down when he fell and some say she screamed but
didn't fall. In any case she couldn't control her dogs. I don't know
where to find the actual testimony that was given in court and the
version that's been published seems to depend on which paper you're
reading. One thing for sure tho, this whole incident was entirely
preventable.
In any case, it would be best to have all the information before
making a nomination.
