Hi All;
The AKC Gazette came out yesterday and the minutes have been polished from the
March Delegate Meeting, which I attended.
Under new business they were some questions presented to the Executive Board
about the the AKC cozying up to the commercial
breeders.
Pat Laurans made everyone present aware that the Board had taken out a
$3,000.00 ad as a platinum sponsor for the Missouri
Pet Breeders Assoc. , this is an organization in MO founded to promote puppy
mills. This was the same group that boycotted the
AKC over DNA testing. Another Delegate Gretchen Bernardi, asked how the staff
had sent out a letter to high volume breeders
waiving late fees on litter and individual registrations, which under the
Rules, Chapter 3, Section 4 which was set by a Delegate
vote. Ms. Bernardi asked did the Board waive the fees? Since she did not see it
in the minutes. The answer from President
Sprung was it's in the Strategic Plan. ( I do not recall reading this in the
plan, and know that I answer no on everything related
to commercial breeders).
Well, what I would like to know from the list, is how you folks feel about the
AKC embracing the commercial breeders? Do you
think it will be good for our dogs, for our sport?
I want to know if you think this will bring new people into our clubs?
I am asking because I emailed President Sprung on behalf of my AB club that is
100% opposed to the AKC getting cozy with
the commercial breeders, including Mr. Hunte. He left me a message to give him
a call as he wants to discuss this with
me and I would really like to know how those of you on the List feel also. You
can email me in private if you like, but I really
think it should be a point of discussion on the list as it could eventually
effect our love and dedication to our breed and our
sport.
