Hi all, Most sables do darken with age, if they had good pigment to start out with. If your sable is well pigmented, it will improve pigment when bred to a black and tan. A lot of people do not breed to sables with the fear that their best puppies in the litter will be sables. Of course its that they don't like sables to start out with. I've had sables for over forty years and have always liked them. If they have good coats, they seem to shed all year long. It does make it harder to keep up with the dog hair around the house. My original sables came from Ch. Hartwald's Flint. Anybody out there remember that dog? Mary Destino Shepherds **************Start the year off right.
