While there is some disagreement regarding where the brindle gene
belongs (see my color genetics article at:
http://jmadesign.com/Frankenhaus/colorgen01.html), it is a recessive
that would have to be inherited from both parents. (Technically
speaking, there is one even more recessive gene that could be inherited
from one parent that if paired with the brindle gene would result in a
brindle puppy, but that possibility is even less likely than getting a
brindle gene from each parent).
Since I've only heard stories about brindle GSD's and never seen one,
I'd love to get some pictures of these puppies to add to my color
genetics article.
