Quite a few years ago I was asked to take a look at a dog someone in this
area had just purchased from a rather well-known breeder...the purchaser is
now also a judge, but wasn't then. The dog was almost all black, and all
I could see for the first few minutes was a pair of bright yellow
eyes...big, round, and decidedly yellow..
. As it happens, the breeder had shipped two dogs to this person and told
her to pick one and send the other back. I didn't believe any breeder would
do such a thing...but really, all I could think of was "WTH did the OTHER
one look like?"
Then, thinking I'd have a cigarette, I took out my lighter -- and when I
flicked it, it didn't light...but the dog completely freaked out. It took
two people to get the dog back into the new owner's car........
None of this has any bearing on anything, certainly not on
coats...but those eyes would have looked awful on any Shepherd, let alone
one that was almost totally black..I'll never forget it.
