Why aren't sables the majority, since sable is dominant to B&T? Because a dominant gene is easily selectable against. Let's say Joe Blow didn't care for sables. If he kept the non-sables that he had, and bred them to non-sables, he got NO sables. Dominant doesn't mean predominant. I think that the ticking on most of our black and tans is probably it's own modifier (read Sponenberg's books on color? Talk about making your head spin!), not a color or pattern. JMO. Remember when you're talking about chance, that each and every puppy has it's own chance to be sable or non-sable, in a breeding involving non-known homozygous sable. So, even if a litter of 12 by your sable stud dog all ended up being sable, that doesn't mean he will only produce sable. Even if both his parents were sable. He MAY still be heterozygous, and you might be one of those people who do well at the casinos.
