other colors....

There are two points in this message I'd like to address.

  1. "The problem with allowing whites is what some "breeders" might
experiment with to try
to come up with a new color that would be rare and therefore.......witness
the "PANDA"
Shepherds now. ..............."show me the money". <G> This is why I
think it should remain
   a disqualifying fault. "

If during the past 107 years, the fanciers of the white coated GSD have not
tried to come up with new and rare colors, what makes you think they'd do so if
the color were allowed back in the conformation ring? This is like saying that
since the breeder who developed the so called "Panda Shepherd" also breeds
colored GSDs, that all colored GSDs should be DQ'ed.

Response: I was not speaking about those who are dedicated Breeders of white
dogs.....nor can I speak
to what each breeder has done for the past 107 years.....but I do know what I
have seen on web sites
just recently. I am speaking of those who would choose to go "off" on
utilizing the white to dilute other
colors. THAT is not "like saying" the PANDA breeder's "Rare" GSD's
chould cause her black and
tans to suddenly be disqualified!! She IS however using the white gene
carried down through her
line to develop something that does not resemble a GSD!!! Sorry.....I
thought I had made that clear?

  2. "Normally breeders of white dogs are just as elitist as we are with our
Standard dogs are
considered to be, and have absolutely no reason or interest in joining our
Clubs. "

I can't speak for the local GSD clubs, but many fanciers of the white coated
GSD are members of the parent
club. In fact, in April the three national U. S. clubs dedicated to the
white coated GSD addressed the BOD.
Two of the three clubs are proud of the rich heritage of the GSD and want
their dogs to remain as members
of the GSD breed despite the conformation DQ. They also support the PC.
Only one club is seeking breed separation. Gayle & the Hooligans!
                        ********************************************************
Response: HOWEVER...I WAS speaking about local Clubs as I thought that was
what the thread
  was about??
They have their own Clubs and are very involved as their own group. I
realize many of the Breeders
of white's are members of the Parent Club.....partly to address the changes
they each prefer. They
are not in agreement in exactly what they want done.
MY POINT.......( hopefully not causing another small 'war' ).......I don't
believe the local clubs need to
worry about changing By Laws to accept ANY pet owner....nor do we need to
adjust or change our
Standard for the issue of white GSD's to be resolved.
