I think most of us GSD people here in Utah have been working on getting
Tauri out of the shelter and finding him a forever home, even if all we have
been able to do is pass emails around trying to find someone who might be
willing to take an almost 10 year dog. Kathy (Great Salt Lake GSDC
treasurer for too many years to count) and I talked last night, both of us
saying "we've GOT to do something."
Well, Kathy's done all the leg work, and she's pulling Tauri tomorrow
morning. She has found him a temporary place to stay while we try to find
him a forever home to live out his life safe and loved.
I would like to suggest that people not jump to conclusions, here. Karen
(Tauri's breeder) is a terrific person, but is having some very serious
health issues and is unable to take him.
The person who surrendered him is doing so because she is finally leaving an
extremely abusive relationship after way too long. I know her, and I will
tell you she is probably barely able to care for herself at this point, let
alone a dog. I wish that we local GSD people had known more of what was
going on, and we would have been trying to help prior to Tauri being placed
in the shelter, but as anyone who has ever dealt with abuse victims knows
sometimes the first priority HAS to be being okay, yourself.
I would ask, please, that fingers not be pointed and judgements not be made.
Sometimes things happen that we all wish were another way. We are trying
hard here (God bless you, Kathy) to make sure Tauri is taken care of.
Thank you so much to everyone who has been POSITIVE during this thing, and
who has tried to help.
