Let there be no doubt that in the years behind us, Carmen and Jimmy and others
have done great deeds for the sake of our beloved breed. But past good deeds
cannot erase recent mistakes that have hurt our breed club dearly.

We will survive this time of trial. But not without change. Nothing will
dimish what good works any of us has done in the past, but if in the present a
person is no longer willing to continue to work for the good they once did,
then they need to be removed from the posts they hold now that they are no
longer using for the greater good.

Since in the past several months Carmen has seen fit to use his positions to
benifit himself and the AKC more than he has sought to benifit the GSDCA, then
yes he should be removed from his posts that are intended to benifit the GSDCA.

I take no joy in his current situation, but I also breath a sigh of relief
that he can no longer abuse his position to benifit any other than the GSDCA.
He was elected to represent all the members of this club. He has not been
doing that recently.

Carmen will be remembered as a pillar of the breed, a true hero for our dogs,
but he will also be remembered for supporting Hunte inclusion in the club and
for his support of a micro chip that is not compatable with current US
technology, possibly causing dogs to not be reunited with their owners.

There are always 2 sides to life, if not more.

Listen carefully. I am not about to go back and forth with anyone on this
List on the merits or lack thereof of Carmen Battaglia. My position on the
recent Hunte issue was made very clear with a letter sent by me as president of
the GSDC Gr. Miami. Although I disagree totally with his decision, I am not
about to neglect to recognize the effort he put in during a basic lifetime.
Let go of your anger and resentment. There is no need to vilify anyone. It is
thankless job and its easy to criticize.

Fine with me that he made 'mistakes' but when they affect my life and the
breed I love ........ it is not fine !!!!!

.........all the things that this man did for the GSd, for dogs in general,
for the GSDCA.

.........how hard he fought against BSL and how much of the good legislation
he actually drafted for municipalities over the years.

.........how much he worked to get Working Dogs accepted by the AKC

.........the efforts it took to push the idea of Back-to-back specialties
through AKC

.........his assistance in getting all-breed performance events approved at
specialty shows so that GSD clubs could actually afford to offer obedience
and
rally.

........This is to mention just a few.

I find it very sad that so many seem to be rejoicing in the downfall of a
man
who dedicated most of his life to this breed. He definitely messed up and
for
those who have wanted to 'get him' for years, the party's on I'm sure but
the
newcomers on the list who want to help kick this man while he's
down..........if you do half as much for this breed and this club during
your time in dogs,
you'll eventually have an understanding of what a sad day this truly is in
the history of our breed.
It is NOT something to be rejoicing over. It is truly a sad, sad day to lose
someone from a position of influence who did so much good for so long even
though it may be by his own failings at this time.
I think some dignity and reserve would be good things to use in handling
this
regardless of personal feelings.
