AKC does not take changing the standard lightly...it is a difficult thing to do.
The breed might be better served by educating judges and breeders as to what
correctlly functional structure is and how it works. If you understand the
structure
that provides maximum reach and forward drive, then you will understand that
lifting, either front or rear, is detrimental to function and endurance.

Recently I was reviewing the Canadian Standard for the German Shepherd
Dog and was reacquainted with a sentence in the section on gait that we
might consider adding to the American Standard the next time it is
revised. That sentence reads "The feet travel close to the ground, and
neither fore or hind feet should lift high on either forward reach or
backward push." Is this a good suggestion??? D.D.
