Canada accepts the 3 yr, but getting back into the states, it won't work.
US requires proof of 1 yr so Carolyn is right...harder to get back in than
leave it.
As to showing, you have the choice between either dual registry or getting
an ERN number. Frankly, unless you have a male that you figure Canadians will
be wanting to breed to, just getting the ERN number is more than sufficient.
