You cannot copyright INFORMATION that is in the public venue - such as dates of 
dog shows, 
pedigrees, etc

You can copyright the design of a website, the backend programs that run the 
website
and original artwork

Photos are owned by a photographer - and some of the programs will allow you to 
add code to it 
(comments into the graphic)

The best way to copyright a website is to print the pages and either spend the 
$40 (if you make 
changes regulalry this will not help) with the US copyright office, or send it 
to yourself in a 
sealed envelope - with tape across the flap that the PO DATE STAMPS.  If can be 
opened in 
court if necessary as proof

THe mailing proceedures was common place with authors of books, articles, music 
etc prior to 
mailing them to publishers in the event that someone used their manuscript with 
their name on it.
