Hey Carolyn and all,

Yes indeed Continental does charge the Cargo price, both ways. One thing I
do want to point out is that "live animals" go in the "Live Animal" bin
only. True it is in the "belly" of the plane but not with luggage and other
cargo items. Now-a-days, per USDA rules, Live animals may only be placed
in the Live Animal bin, not with luggage or other items.

In reading Julie Degen's email I share her sense of frustration - we (Pet
Air Carrier) are the agents for Lufthansa and KLM airlines; we handle all
import permits, endorsements, crate sizes etc.+ the security documents and
declarations. These airlines don't question our clients or run them
"through the mill" when they arrive at Cargo due to the preparations we make
before hand. But believe me it took 5 years to arrive at that point. We
use to do "daily battle" with agents in cargo. Thankfully that is no longer
the case, but the general public still has a horrific time. The domestic
scene does not get better for you.

The "extender" Julie got from us does work and prevents being required to
use the giant or 700 hundred series. If we can help any of you
owners/breeders out there anyone in need of an extender just let me know.
We can have it shipped to you at cost .

In response to some answers...what I'm trying to find out from the original
post is if those flights
posted are with the dog being shipped BY ITSELF.......or WITH YOU and your
flight?
In actuality......none of it is new ...except they now let you pick up the
dog in the Terminal
when shipped by itself....and that makes it sound so much better......but in
the end the dog
STILL goes out to the plane and in the cargo area just like baggage. They
just charge full
shipping charges.......so the $25. coupon doesn't make that much difference.

The "terminology" of not being shipped as "baggage" makes people more
secure
and think they are treated different and better than other airlines and they
are not.
The dog ALWAYS goes through the terminal with you when you fly WITH the dog
and
if I am flying the dog by itself......I PREFER to go to Cargo where I can
park easier and
just walk in.......the dog still ends up in the belly of the plane and goes
to that airline's
main hub for connections either way!
ALL or almost all Continental flights connect in Houston as that is their
main hub. They are the
only one ( so far ) that charge FULL price for the dog when it flies with
you and not as excess
baggage.
SOUNDS good.........but the dog still flies in baggage.........they just
CHARGE more! <G>

In other words....if we were to fly our male with us to Ohio on Continental
it would cost us
about $500 EACH way!
To fly other airlines.....BECAUSE they fly them as "excess baggage" (
merely a term )
I can fly the same dog for $200 or less.......and he still goes through the
terminal with us and
no matter what......ends up in the belly of the plane with the baggage.

I would be really curious to know if anyone actually uses this service to
get a dog
to the National......and how it turned out so we know if it actually is a
good & useful method.

It sounds to me like it is for shipping a dog by itself......which is not
really helpful for
TAKING a dog to a show? Might be useful ......to some......?

By "not accepting pets as checked baggage"......means they charge full price
for shipping
doesn't it? They STILL go in the cargo area of the plane.......
