s it turns out, I got really pissed at my local vet. I had been using
he same vet for over 30 years ( he was very knowledgeable). He sold his
ractice to a younger vet and this was the first time I had a real issue
equiring vet experience. When I asked the new vet for the differential
iagnoses, she just stated that it was probably old age! I could not believe
hat
his professional was brushing off renal failure as "old age". For the most
art, renal failure is a secondary condition caused by a primary cause or
nsult ( infection, trauma, cancer, toxins, other systemic failures),
specially when it presents itself on a short timeline. I knew I was not going
o
et anywhere with this vet and so I asked her to fax the results to my
ffice. I immediately contacted my reproductive vet who is 1.5 hrs to the north
of us and explained the situation. We got Margarita up to Ft. Lauderdale
nd within an hour, she was catheterized had an IV going, antibiotics, etc.
here was a game plan to try and get her out of renal failure. The
ifferential diagnoses were discussed. We did an ultrasound that showed some
arked
bnormalities around one kidney and a large mass within the abdomen, most
ikely coming from an ovary. As of yesterday, Margarita was out of renal
ailure with most of her lab values back to normal. She ate and drank and was
lert. The plan is to do an exploratory surgery on Monday morning.

ystic ovary and she can be saved. If she is saved, then hope that the
enal failure that was reversed did not yield permanent kidney damage. Too
