I agree that it takes a lot of studying to make a responsible breeding
decision. I think there are many breeders who don't know the dogs in their own
American pedigrees very well. Sometimes the information one needs is difficult
to acquire.

Truer words were never spoken, Mike. Part of the problem with using the
German dogs is not the dogs themselves - it's that there are very few people
in this country who really know the European pedigrees well enough and far
back enough to make an educated breeding decision. I've run into quite a
few folks who think they have the knowledge but less than a handful who
truly do.
